All about ultrasound cavitation

Ultrasound cavitation is a relatively new treatment which uses ultrasonic vibrations and radio waves to turn fat cells in liquid which can then be naturally expelled by the body. It has gained popularity due to its status as a non-invasive, non-surgical fat reduction treatment. However, ultrasound cavitation is not a cure-all and is, in fact, best utilized along with healthy eating, exercise and other dietary measures. Here we will explore the ins and outs of ultrasound cavitation.

HOW DOES ULTRASOUND CAVITATION WORK?

To explain a little further, the way it works is that these ultrasonic vibrations and radio waves create bubbles around fat deposits under the skin which eventually causes them to burst. Upon bursting, the fats are converted in free fatty acids and glycerol which are then sent to the liver to be expelled as waste and reutilized by the body, respectively.

WHAT ARE ULTRASONIC CAVITATION TREATMENTS LIKE?

There is no one size fits all treatment procedure since every treatment is tailored to the individual and the specific area that individual is looking to treat. However, in general, treatments can be completed in about three sessions with about two weeks between each session. Sessions generally last between 45 and 75 minutes but could be longer or shorter depending on various factors.

WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH ULTRASONIC CAVITATION?

Aside from bony areas like the neck and head, ultrasonic cavitation can be used on most localized areas of fat. This includes abdominals, thighs, hips and upper arms.

ARE THERE ANY HEALTH IMPACTS WITH ULTRASONIC CAVITATION?

Ultrasonic cavitation eliminates localized fat deposits that would be difficult to get rid of with diet and exercise alone. However, it is not a replacement for diet and exercise nor is it a general weight loss treatment. Please note that fat deposit reduction and general weight loss are very different. A person suffering from obesity cannot simply use ultrasonic cavitation to magically eliminate what is, ultimately, a serious health condition. Additionally, there are certain classes of people who should not utilize ultrasonic cavitation treatment. This includes the following:

1. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
2. People who have an infection or inflammation in the desired treatment area.
3. People with heart conditions, pacemakers or other metal implants in their hearts.
4. People with a skinfold measurement of less than 2cm.
5. People who are taking anticoagulants or those with a history of blood clotting issues.
6. People who have a medical history of malignancies.
7. Others with serious medical conditions like diabetes.

THE PROS AND CONS OF ULTRASONIC CAVITATION

Ultrasonic cavitation is approved by the FDA and is relatively safe and effective. Because it is non-invasive, there is no downtime, it does not leave scars and has minimal side effects. Results occur gradually over several treatment sessions so it is not too difficult to measure whether or not more treatments are necessary. Additionally, with exercise and a healthy diet and lifestyle, results can last a long time. There are also a few (minor) cons to ultrasonic cavitation such as the fact that it may be ineffective for people with a lot of weight to lose and the results are much more subtle than the results of, let’s say liposuction. Additionally, it is impossible to know and measure the exact amount of fat which was lost due to the treatment; especially since diet and exercise is recommended along with the treatment which will also contribute to fat loss.

CONCLUSION

Due to the safety, effectiveness and FDA approval of ultrasonic cavitation, it is certainly a treatment worth looking into for those of us who want to try and lose a little bit of fat in stubborn areas like the stomach and hips. Many popular spas now offer body cavitation services and it should not be hard to find one that does in your area if you would like to give the treatment a try. Still, remember, that it is not a replacement for diet and exercise and body cavitation treatment should be combined with a healthy lifestyle for the best results.
