Clean pedicure tubs

Pedicures are used to keep feet and toenails healthy. During this process a device called pedicure tubs is used. The clients use the pedicure tubs to soak their feet. In salons, these pedicure tubs need to be properly cleaned and disinfected after each client. If this is not done, bacteria and disease can spread from one client to the next.

How often do you need to clean the pedicure tubs – specifically whirlpool filter?

Best practice is to remove it and clean it daily. The filter is inside the tub under the round perforated cover. This screen captures large particles so they do not enter the whirlpool system.

What is the best way to sanitize after each use of  pedicure tubs?

Please consult your state regulations. However, we suggest adding a hospital grade sanitizer to the water after each pedicure. Run the whirlpool system for a few minutes. Let the sanitizer do its job. Drain and rinse the pedicure tub. If your are unsure of the level of sanitation, repeat this process

Protecting the client – disinfecting pedicure tubs

1. Check the condition of the client’s feet and legs: If open sores or skin wounds are present (including insect bites, scratches, scabbed-over wounds, or any condition that weakens the skin barrier), explain to the client why they should not use the foot bath.

2. Complete pedicure or wax after the foot bath soak: Any procedure that risks damage to a client’s skin should not be done before soaking feet in the foot spa basin.
