New Skin Treatment: Plasma fibroblast therapy

Plasma Fibroblast therapy is a minimally invasive cosmetic skin procedure which many tout as a viable alternative to laser treatments and more invasive cosmetic surgeries. It is, compared to its treatment counterparts, relatively new. It was originally invented in Italy but now has made its way to the United States, Europe and a number of other countries in recent years. Here we will discuss the treatment indications, benefits and drawbacks of this novel cosmetic treatment.

WHAT IS FIBROBLAST THERAPY USED FOR?

Fibroblast therapy is quite versatile and can be used to treat a number of skin maladies such as Sun damage, photo-aging, acne scars, wrinkles, sagging skin and loose skin. Additionally, fibroblast therapy is not exclusively used for facial skin and is also commonly used on the neck, jawline and stomach.

IS FIBROBLAST THERAPY EFFECTIVE?

Due to the enormous influx of new beauty treatments in recent times, it can be hard to tell which treatments are simply fads which do not work and which actually have scientific merit behind them. Fibroblast therapy, according to one small study in 2007, resulted in a 68 percent overall improvement in facial appearance and a 37 percent reduction in facial wrinkling. Another small study in 2014 indicated that the positive stimulation of fibroblasts lasts for about a year after treatment. To better understand what this means, you need to understand that fibroblasts are small collagen producing cells at the dermis layer of the skin. Having these cells being stimulated for this period of time after treatment means that you will be producing more collagen and experience the benefits of producing more collagen such as clearer, younger-looking skin.

WHAT IS FIBROBLAST TREATMENT LIKE?

As was discussed in the first paragraph of this article, fibroblast treatment is non-invasive and relatively safe and painless so you won’t have to worry about extensive recovery time or intensive side effects like you might experience with more traditional and invasive cosmetic procedures. The treatment typically begins with the application of a numbing cream which takes effect in approximately 30 minutes. This helps to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure. Next, the treatment begins with the medical spa professional using a plasma pen which emits microcurrents against the surface of the skin. These microcurrents will cause small, round, scab-like bumps on the clients skin. Following this step, the medical spa professional will remove the numbing cream and, generally, apply a cooling cream or gel to minimize any burning or tingling which the client may feel. The entire treatment generally lasts between an hour and an hour and a half.
